Gulf Chemical

Protecting from metal catalyzed oxidation

The presence of trace dissolved metals, such as copper, vanadium and iron in a fuel can accelerate the rate of oxidation. This oxidization can cause darkening, gum formation and sedimentation in fuel.

As little as 0.01ppm of copper can catalyze fuel degradation reactions, meaning that any equipment containing copper alloys, such as pipelines and pumps, poses a potential oxidization risk.

Metal deactivators are a proven, highly effective solution for eliminating the catalytic effect of trace metals.

Gulf Chemical’s metal deactivators work by chelating dissolved trace metals and neutralizing the catalytic process at its source.

Our range can stabilize fuels in a variety of applications:

  • Gasoline
    • Eliminate gum formation
    • Extend antioxidant effectiveness
    • Insure against copper contamination
  • Middle distillates
    • Improve color stability
    • Improve fuel oil compatibility
  • Jet Fuel
    • Improve stability
    • As a Jet Fuel Thermal Oxidation Test (JFTOT) Stabilizer

The exact concentration of chemicals required in a fuel stream depends on a range of factors, such as the level and nature of copper present in the stream and the possibility of copper contamination of the fuel after it leaves the refinery.

To meet our customers handling requirements in different climates, we offer various concentrations of our core chemistry.

With its industry-leading expertise in fuel additives, Gulf Chemical can support refiners by developing tailored metal deactivator solutions to meet their specific requirements.

Refiners can also achieve enhanced distillate stabilization, by usingĀ  chemistry in conjunction with its Fuel Oil Additives.
